As we wind down another financial year, I would like to thank all our members and partners for your continuing support and membership of BankVic. Being the bank for first responders, we are proud to work for the people who protect and care for our community.

BankVic’s home loans were again recognised with honours from independent analysts, from Canstar and Mozo, whose awards highlighted the value-for-money that BankVic members enjoy, and the high regard in which our home loan products are held. More about these is included in this edition.

Our overall pride extends to the achievements and support for your careers and community. In recent months we have supported a number of professional development scholarships and awards in the health sector, including our partners at Northern Health, which provide the means for ongoing learning and ultimately, rewarding and enjoyable careers.

The BankVic team once again got behind the annual Angela Taylor Memorial Run/Walk, with around 100 of our people participating in and supporting what was a wonderful opportunity for the police and emergency services community to come together and honour all those who are no longer with us. It was a beautiful morning around Albert Park Lake and we congratulate our partners at the Blue Ribbon Foundation for the event’s continuing success.

Of special note is the inaugural National Police Legacy Day, held on 17 June, to highlight the work of all state police legacy organisations in supporting the families of police who have passed away. As proud and long-term partners of Victoria Police Legacy, we know and support the work they do to foster connection and community with police legatees, and to have that acknowledged so publicly and strongly right round the country is something we are proud to have supported.

We end this financial year in a very strong position, with a new lending approval record over the past twelve months. For us to be able to help more members achieve their dreams of home ownership and a better financial position, is an immense privilege. All directors and staff feel great pride in working on your behalf and we are grateful for what we get to do.

Angela Taylor Memorial Walk/Run

One of the biggest events on the BankVic calendar was held in late May, and the police and emergency services community was out in full force for the annual Angela Taylor Memorial Run/Walk.

The event honours all Victoria Police officers who have died in the line of duty and is named after Constable Angela Rose Taylor, who on 27 March 1986, took the full force from a car bomb outside the police complex in Russell Street Melbourne, and died in hospital several weeks later.

Held by the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation, the event also raises funds to allow the foundation to continue its valuable work in providing new and improved medical facilities in public hospitals throughout Victoria.

As principal sponsor of the event, this is a very special one for the BankVic team. Around 90 staff and family members proudly participated and enjoyed a beautiful Sunday morning around Albert Park Lake.

Donations to the Blue Ribbon Foundation can be made at any time via remember.org.au/donate
