How to avoid transaction fees

ATM fees

Some ATM owners may charge a fee for using their ATMs and this fee may vary. You can avoid this fee by only withdrawing cash from BankVic ATMs, non-fee charging ATMs or via eftpos.

Paying bills

Pay bills via BPAY or payments directly from your transaction account to avoid transaction fees. If you use your Visa credit card to pay bills, you’ll incur interest rate charges and late fees if you don’t repay the full balance of the card by the due date.

If you have direct debit arrangements with billers, check the due date on your bill and make sure you always have sufficient funds in your account to avoid being charged a direct debit dishonour fee.

Shopping

When using your Visa debit card, if you don’t need to withdraw cash when making a purchase, either:

  • use your digital wallet on your phone or watch, or
  • if using your physical debit card, either use Visa payWave OR select Credit on the eftpos terminal instead of Savings.

Repaying your credit card

Paying the balance of your Visa credit card before the due date will mean you won’t incur interest charges on the transactions or any late payment charges. Don’t forget – introductory rates and interest free periods do not apply to cash advances.
